Turkey to introduce new car rental rules
From 1 January 2027, new rules will apply to short-term car rental companies in Turkey.
Key changes:
🚗 Rental cars must be no more than 6 years old; 🔋 Mileage limits: 180,000 km for regular vehicles and 300,000 km for electric vehicles; 💳 Deposits will be limited to 3 days of rental for rentals up to 6 days and 7 days for rentals of 7-29 days; 🛠️ Damage claims must be supported by an independent expert assessment; 📄 Rental companies will need an official authorization certificate (yetki belgesi).
Existing businesses will have a transition period.
The new rules are intended to make the car rental market more transparent and strengthen consumer protection, particularly regarding deposits and vehicle damage claims.
