New DASK Rules for Property Sales in Turkey
From 5 September 2026, Turkey is changing the rules for Compulsory Earthquake Insurance (DASK).
When a property is sold:
The seller's existing DASK policy will not be transferred to the buyer. The existing policy will end on the date the ownership transfer is registered at the Land Registry (Tapu). The buyer must obtain a new DASK policy in their own name. The existence of a valid DASK policy for the new owner will be checked during the title transfer process. The seller may request a refund of the paid premium for the unused period by applying to the insurance company. Important
The 15-day notification rule applies to ownership changes other than a sale, such as inheritance. In these cases, the existing DASK policy continues with the new owner. The new owner must notify the insurance company within 15 days after learning about the policy. The insurer or agency must issue the relevant endorsement within 24 hours after receiving the notification.
In practice: buyers purchasing property after 5 September 2026 should not rely on the previous owner's DASK. A new policy must be issued in the buyer's name.
